Hi, I’m Kate!
I’m a director, actor, producer, and theater artist, born and raised in New York City.
I caught the theater bug quite early growing up in Brooklyn, listening to my parent’s entire collection of Sondheim cast albums and memorizing all the words to “Hernando’s Hideaway” from The Pajama Game (I know… very specific and not quite appropriate for a six-year-old.) In the first grade I convinced my classmates to spend their free choice time rehearsing a production of The Wizard of Oz that I wanted to direct. That production only lasted about a week before my classmates decided they preferred recess to rehearsals.
I attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in NYC as a drama major and was awarded one of two Principal’s Awards for Outstanding Graduate in Drama. I then graduated from Princeton University where I majored in History with certificates in Theatre, Music Theatre and American Studies. At Princeton, I directed/choreographed The Hello Girls (by Cara Reichel and Peter Mills) at McCarter’s Berlind Theater as my theatre thesis and was a member of the Princeton Triangle Club for all four years. I was Triangle’s cast manager, dance captain and then elected Vice-President for two years. Triangle ignited my passion for supporting writers of original musical theater.
I’m currently the Artistic Associate at Prospect Musicals, where I support the development of new musical theater and lead internal casting. I have worked with Prospect since 2022 and joined the staff in February 2023. I have worn many hats in theater, working as a director, choreographer, actor, stage manager, producer, production assistant and personal assistant. I was also a part of the Hangar Theatre’s Lab Company directing cohort in 2021, where I was the assistant director on three different productions, including Sweeney Todd starring Nik Walker and Donna Lynne Champlin.
As a director and producer, I am passionate about new musical development, immersive theater, audience experience, and actor-musicianship. I’m also particularly drawn to projects that tell historical stories and play with the line between non-fiction and fiction. I center play, joy and curiosity in the rehearsal room and in all of my work, loving theater because of how integral collaboration is at every step of the creative process.
