Kate Semmens is a director, actor, producer, theater artist, and lifelong New Yorker.

Kate’s theater-making started when in the first grade she convinced her classmates to spend their free choice time rehearsing a production of The Wizard of Oz that she was directing. That production only lasted about a week, but Kate’s love of theater continued on. Kate then attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in NYC as a drama major and graduated from Princeton University where she majored in History with certificates in Theatre, Music Theatre and American Studies. At Princeton, Kate directed/choreographed The Hello Girls at McCarter’s Berlind Theater as her theatre thesis and was the Vice-President of the Princeton Triangle Club for two years. Kate is currently the Producing Artistic Assistant at Prospect Theater Company, where she supports the development of new musical theater. Kate is a true multi-hyphenate, working as a director, choreographer, actor, stage manager, producer, production assistant and personal assistant. She was also a part of the Hangar Theatre’s last Lab Company directing cohort, where she was the assistant director on three different productions.

Kate is passionate about audience experience and theater accessibility. Some of her theatrical focuses and interests include new musical development, immersive theater, actor-musicianship, community-centered work, and bringing lesser known historical stories to the stage.
